The Rainbow Bridge

Although CameoCam has been on hiatus for several years, it is with great sadness that we announce the following.

Cameo passed away peacefully on March 28th, 2021 at the age of 18 after a short battle with untreatable cancer.  Although her departure was sudden, it was not unexpected.  She was a fighter to the end and brought joy to those she loved.

Cameo was probably born on the Ides of March in 2003 in southeastern Michigan, somewhere near Plymouth, though she liked to tell people she was from Montreal.  Although records from the era are spotty, she was probably involved in some sort of accident which left her without most of a tail.  She also might have given birth to one or more litters of kittens.

After she was rescued by the Humane Society of Huron Valley, healed and spayed, she was adopted on August 15, 2005.

Early in her life, she loved bird-watching, catching bats, teasing squirrels, knocking over furniture, wire-chewing, laser-play, writing blog posts and fetching stuffed toys.  Later in life, she developed interests in lizards, pretending to be a hummingbird, eating rubber door stoppers (and having them surgically removed), carrying around stuffed mice, night-time crazies, supervised playtime outside, comically running from real mice, ignoring raccoons, intense couch snuggling and getting treats. She was always very sociable and liked to hang out with the group, even if only as an observer.

She lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan for much of her early life, broken up by short stints in Madison, Wisconsin, Washington D.C. and Tucson, Arizona, finally settling in 2013 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she got to live in her first home with stairs, which she always used gracefully.

She leaves behind countless people who have touched her life.  The unconditional love of a pet is something to be cherished and provides a fundamental lesson on how we should treat each other.  The sweet innocence and determination of a pet provides insights on how we should face the challenges of life.

If Cameo has touched your life, please consider a donation to the Humane Society of Huron Valley (or a local humane society) in her name.  Your donation may help other rescued animals bring years of happiness to their newly adoptive parents.

You will be missed Camiebears - Thank you for 16 wonderful years.
